The Mushyl lake (, ''Müšyl Jer''), nicknamed the Sea Eye ((ロシア語:Морской Глаз), Morskoy Glaz) is a minor karst lake in Shariboksad, Volzhsky District, Mari El, Russia. Located at the foot of the hill its bright green water is extremely deep (38.5 m) compared to the surface area (45x50 m). ==Etymology== Müšyl ([], ) means crater in the Mari language.〔[http://www.wanders-k.ru/2007/%D0%BC%D0%B5%D0%B6%D0%B4%D1%83%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%87%D1%8C%D0%B5-%D0%BA%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BA%D0%B8-%D0%B8-%D0%B8%D0%BB%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B8/%D0%9E%D0%B7%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BE-%D0%9C%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B9-%D0%93%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B7-%D0%9C%D1%83%D1%88%D1%8B%D0%BB/ Команда Кочующие, Озеро Морской Глаз - Мушыл]〕 In early documents it was known only by its Mari name, written in the Russian text with Mari diacritics.〔Агроклиматический справочник по Марийской АССР, 1961〕 Later, Russian-speaking tourists were inspired by the sea-like colour of the water to give it the more poetic Russian name.
